The side street was narrow and inconspicuous. Except for the fact that there was hardly any room to park, it could have been in a village in Normandy. Entering the outer cobblestone courtyard, I already began to swoon.
The terrasse was picture perfect.
The garden made me long for my old garden in the States. Since I've been an urban dweller, I've persuaded myself that my garden had mostly been a chore; I haven't missed the weeding and composting. Right?
And then this. I think I want a garden in my future. With a humble stone fountain at the end, like this, pleasing the eye and ear.
But, mostly,
I want a bathroom with a crystal chandelier.

a sharp intake of breath--then--ooooooooooooohhh.
Petrea,
I concur. This house was understated elegance at its best. Not a chandelier in the rest of the house, I might add, so such a fabulous French twist to have one in the former sitting room converted into a bathroom.
This looks beautiful, and I know just how you feel about the garden. I was in the country this weekend and I was jealous of all the space and green, I miss the English countryside so much! Oh, and this chandelier is AMAZING.
I do agree with you; a bathroom as you might possibly expect to see in a fine old English home.... I ALWAYS wanted a chandelier in my bathroom; so that's something waiting to happen - one day - with the right bath!
I do however have a clawfoot bath, so 'heavy metal' that it takes two man alone to move it (had to replace pipes and taps (faucets if you're american).....
Lovely post! Found this in your reply to Corey's post re her refurbishing a bathroom......
