Paris Trees

I pine for Paris all the time. But nothing makes me miss Paris more than a nice long chat with Mary Blake on Skype. We gossip, we laugh, we share secrets (heh heh). We critique and compliment. She's in her atelier in Montmartre, her cat Lucie climbing across the computer keyboard. Her cobblestone courtyard outside the door. Sacre Coeur just up the hill. I'm in Virginia. Well, I'm in Virginia. Trees, hills, deer, fireflies: verdant bucolic splendor.

After an hour or so of talking at each other's screen faces (wearing the same reading glasses from Pylones, it turns out), when we hang up I'm always good for a 15-minute self-pity sobfest. I love my life here, but I want to be in Paris!

Yes, I have lush greenery, but Mary Blake also has trees. Her most recent works focus on the trees of Paris. Check out her entire blog, Painting Paris. Her trees are sheer poetry.

Ahh, I empathize with you. I have a nice life here in Florida but after being in Paris for 20 days at Christmas I want to live there, as impractical as that might be.
Throwing caution to the wind, I am returning to Paris for the entire month of October. It will either cure my addiction or embed it deeper into my psyche. Thanks for your lovely blog and your links.

Heureusement, I will be in Europe within a month. Two weeks in Barcelona, two weeks in Toulouse and a month in Paris. I wish it could be longer.

I'm so thrilled for those of you who are going to spend time in Paris this fall! Keep us posted on plans and preparations, and certainly posts from Paris once you're there!

Starman: Ah, Barcelona! I fell in love with the city. And Toulouse, La Ville Rose, is my second-favorite French city after Paris.

How is it possible I haven't discovered you before now? Your blog is truly, truly exceptional. Apart from your love affair with Paris, you write beautifully.

As you say, anyone who has lived five minutes in France is writing a book, but to my complete amazement there seems to be a hungry audience waiting for the next collection of insights on why and how Frenchwomen do what they do so well.

I hope you have great success with yours. Unlike so many other books which have had some interesting points -- even though those of us who have lived here for years can be underwhelmed -- it appears yours will be different. It will be well-written, that is a given.

Best regards,
Tish

Bonjour Noir!

The summer I was 18 I had a crush on a Romanian basketball player. So I can understand some of what you've said without using google translate. Romanian is so close to French and Latin in some ways.

I'll check out your site. Thanks for stopping by.

Polly

P.S. His name was Dan and he was quite handsome.

Tish, Thank you so much for your comments. I should have replied to you firs,t but was so flustered by the Romanian!

If I could choose any course of life, I would live in Paris and write/blog about it forever. It was sublime! Alas, I wish my wallet agreed with me. Maybe some day it will? I keep my eyes on the prize.
