I have an elderly neighbor 2 flights down and I know we are always concerned with her well-being; I believe her relatives keep in touch with the gardienne. Nice to have a 'village' atmosphere -- not just a village to raise a child but to see one through the other end.

Autoclycus -- it could be in part to the canicule of 2003; I've heard that recent fatality staistics about that heat wave are even higher than what was reported back then. But from what I hear, the sapeurs-pompiers are called to break into apartments where no one answers under many emergency circumstances. A friend recently had a bad water leak coming from the apartment above, and the upstairs owners were away for the weekend. The pompiers broke in to turn off the plumbing to stem the water damage. And saved the day!Polly-Vous Francaishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12667479743723002691noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28165993.post-23532115784633846482008-04-07T16:59:00.000-04:002008-04-07T16:59:00.000-04:00Is this a reaction to the concern about the "canic...Is this a reaction to the concern about the "canicule" death toll some years ago?Autolycushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17642868944400656922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28165993.post-72392646885101426032008-04-07T12:43:00.000-04:002008-04-07T12:43:00.000-04:00And my next question, who is next of kin? Who would know if she should have been in residence?

Just because she wasn't in the apartment, doesn't mean she wasn't in need of help. She could have gone out on an errand, and never returned.

Now I can worry about a little old lady, in a city far away, across and ocean. -sigh-

Mari-Nancismilnsighhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17207943167502354530noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28165993.post-88752325739521283772008-04-07T12:40:00.000-04:002008-04-07T12:40:00.000-04:00I think it's a lovely comment on the neighbors.
