Weird Blogger Issue

I just wanted to alert anyone who has a Blogger account that they may be receiving apparently non-official blogger alerts like this. I almost clicked on their link when I got this email, but then realized that they had sent this to the wrong email address.
I forwarded this to Blogger, but who knows how long it will take for them to sort through the emails.
The subject line says "Blogger error, please read."
Caveat bloggor.

This is no doubt some new form of SCAM SPAM mail, designed to get you to think you are dealing with Blogger when in fact it is someone who is trying to encourage you to click through and provide personal information about yourself that will later be used for fraudulent or unscrupulous purposes. It's called "phishing", this technique of replicating official emails from companies such as eBay, Amazon and others, that look so authentic the recipient isn't aware they are totally being scammed. They get you to panic about something to do with "your account" and then before you know it you're handing over your email, phone number, and sometimes even credit card information.

When in doubt, I advise people to do exactly what YOU did and contact the web site or company directly to ask if they have recently sent you any emails. 99% of the time the answer is "no" and they appreciate knowing there is a scam taking place under their name.

You're so right, Lisa. And I'm usually cautious about emails from supposed financial companies. But I was caught off guard by a Blogger scam because they never ask for money or credit info. Just a way of hacking into a blog?

I saw one other report of the same thing, on a Romanian blog.
